How old does my child have to be to start lessons?

I teach anyone over 10 years old. I encourage both girls and boys to attend classes. I believe you are never too old to learn!

What do you provide for the lessons?

I will provide kits that include everything you will need to make the craft, except thread. Each student needs to bring a spool of white thread and a bobbin to fit the machine they are bringing. If you are borrowing a machine from me, I will provide the thread. The kits will contain fabric and everything else you'll need to make each project, precut and ready to go. I will also provide all the tools you'll need to complete each project, including fabric scissors, seam rippers, rulers, etc.

The only thing I WILL NOT provide is a sewing machine. If you can't bring your own, please contact me in advance and we can make arrangements until you can acquire one.

Do I get to choose my fabric?

I precut all the fabric for each project in the classes and have a variety of fabrics available, including seasonal fabrics for the holidays. So the answer is no, you don't bring your own fabric, but you can choose the fabric available in each kit for each project among the kits I have. Once you learn how to make each project you will probably want to go to the fabric store so you can make another, and you can choose your own fabric then.

Do I have to take the Let's Get Started Class first?

If you have not had any experience with using a sewing machine, or don't feel confident using one yet, I highly recommend taking the Let's Get Started Class first. If you can sew a straight stitch, can backstitch, and know how to thread your own machine, and feel confident in your knowledge of how your sewing machine works, then it's okay to take other classes without taking Let's Get Started first.

Where do I get the precuts for your Start Quilting Class?

For the quilting class you will need to bring several precuts:

A Layered Cake is kit made of 42 precut 10 inch squares in coordinating fabrics.

A Jelly Roll is a kit made of 40 strips of precut 2.5 inch fabric in coordinating colors.

A Charm Pack is a kit of 42 precut 5 inch squares of fabric in coordinating colors.

These kits can be purchased online at various websites such as etsy.com, missouriquiltco.com, or shabbyfabrics.com. If you tell me in advance, and don't mind if they don't match, I will precut kits for you for an additional $40 for all three kits.

What if my sewing machine breaks during a lesson?
If it's a quick fix, I'll be able to help you. If it takes more time to fix what is wrong, unfortunately I won't have time to fix it during class. I HIGHLY recommend looking up how to clean your machine and cleaning it (especially the bobbin area) before coming to class. If you haven't used your machine for a while, please make sure it is in working order before coming to class.
